Our students will complete life-size characters and stories. In social studies, the students are making cave drawings of early hominid life.
October 8 is the 5th and 6th grade music/band program. It will take place at JES starting at 7 pm!
Students were challenged to design a ramp in which the increase/decrease of friction would affect the speed!!!
In class, 6th grade is investigating early HOMINIDS and their survival techniques. We collected things from nature to design our own tools.
GEOCACHING! This past Thursday, we had the opportunity to have Ms. Purkeypile, from the County Extension Office, visit us with a lesson on GPS/GIS and navigating with these tools. We have reviewed in class the concept of using latitude and longitude to be able to locate exact points. With Ms. Purkeypile, students were then able to partner with another student and use waypoints that were programed into their GPS to attempt to locate a point of interest on our school campus. We may have to ask her back to help in another expedition! MATH!!!! We are moving into our unit of Bits and Pieces! We have been relating our concepts of fractions with apples and other thoughts of food.... By the end of our unit, your child should have an understanding of these vocabulary words: fraction, rational numbers, unit fraction, improper fractions, percents, decimals, simplifying fractions, equivalent fractions, numerators, denominators, and ratio. Students have been ordering fractions, comparing fractions, and finding fractions between 2 fractions (find 2 fractions between 4/7 and 5/7). Check their understanding and reinforce when the natural opportunities arise. Thanks!
Hello. Your child was given a letter concerning safety/care of computers. We discussed the importance of keeping all liquids on the floor when anyone has a computer on the desk/table. If it is THEIR liquid that is spilled, then THEY may have to pay for the damage to the computer. Thanks so much!
We are finishing up our first unit in math and will be heading into fractions.
